New England Wedding Photographer

After the weather we had last week, I think everyone was ready for the sun (it doesn’t hurt that as I write this, it’s perhaps the best weather day of the year outside. Bentley and I will be taking the afternoon off to go to the park – one of the perks of self-employment – my boss lets me do things like that).

Sunday evening when I met up with Justin and Amy for some engagement photos downtown, the weather and light were both absolutely perfect. Amy and Justin live downtown, and are getting married in Maine in September, and wanted to incorporate Boston into their images, as we won’t make it to the city on their wedding day. We started off in Beacon Hill, where after this next image in Louisburg Square a driver pulled over and yelled, “Hey! You know you’re in front of John the fraud Kerry’s house, right?”

Then we headed down to the Charles to incorporate the Boston skyline into some images: Boston Skyline - New England wedding photographer

Amy’s a post-production producer for a local video/film company, so I knew when I removed the bird poop from the dock in the next couple photos, my editing had to be spot on.

Boston Helicopter Tours

In the wake of last week’s helicopter tour of Boston, I have some exciting news to share. After meeting with the guys over at Boston Helicopter Tours yesterday, beginning immediately we’ll be offering a helicopter tour and photography package. Flights won’t be limited to Boston either – they offer flights up the Seacoast, fall foliage tours, and more.

The details:

  • Cost: $300 plus the cost of the flight (worth noting though, Boston Helicopter Tours doesn’t charge an additional fee for an additional passenger (me) – all the more reason to have me along.
  • You receive: 30 minutes of photography on the ground pre-flight and images chronicling entire flight. You’ll receive approximately 50-75 images on a CD one week from your flight.
  • Additional info: you must book this package more than 24-hours in advance, and while I’m happy to fly on Saturday’s if I’m available, my weekend schedule is somewhat limited due to my wedding calendar, so Sunday-Friday flights are the best bet.

Questions? Want to book a flight? E-mail me with the subject line “helicopter tour” at doug@douglaslevyphotography.com and call the guys at Boston Helicopter Tours at 978-689-7600 to book your flight time.

Boston helicopter Tour
Sometimes…sometimes your phone rings and there’s amazing, just on the other end of the line. Last week when Shruti called and asked if we could get together for some portraits before her and her husband Nitin went on a helicopter tour of Boston to celebrate their tenth anniversary, I thought, “That sounds like a cool idea.” Then I got to thinking – yes, we could absolutely do some portraits, but wouldn’t the photo be Shruti and Nitin high above Boston, in the helicopter, enjoying the ride of a lifetime?

Lucky me when I called Shruti back she was totally on board with the idea. Adding to the plan was that the entire evening was going to be a surprise for Nitin – he had no idea what he was in store for. I met them just as the light was starting to get nice for a few pre-flight photos:

Then, after a quick safety briefing, it was time to saddle up.

It took us about 10 minutes to make the trip from the Lawrence Airport to Boston, but once we made it…wow….

For my photographer friends out there – these shots of the city were ISO 10,000 on the D3s. Special thanks to my friends at LensProToGo for the Kenyon Labs gyro too!

I’d also be remiss not to thank  Binita Patel for sending Shruti and Nitin my way – I had an absolute blast. If anyone is interested in purchasing fine art prints from our flight, you can do so directly via this gallery – Boston by Air.
