I don’t shoot a lot of families and kids, and most of the time my wedding and corporate work keeps me more than busy enough. But when a friend you’ve known since the sixth grade calls and asks if you’ll photograph her family, well, it’s impossible to say no.

Last Wednesday before the holiday, I spent a couple of hours with Becca, Jerry and Madelyn, and had an absolute blast. Before I share the photos from this week though, here’s one from the first time I photographed Madelyn when she was just a couple of weeks old.

And now some from this week – she has to be one of the most expressive kids I know.  I think this first one is my favorite, she was completely enamored with my camera and lights. Every chance she had to took off toward my camera bag to play with the zippers!

It’s always fun to see clients’ business progress and evolve, and even more fun when they involve me in the process. Frequent readers will remember social attraction guru Adam LoDolce from our first session last fall. Well Adam’s business has been kicking ass since then, and he’s got a new site in the works, we got together to make some new images for his new site.

I’d also be remiss not to thank Curt at the Charlesmark Hotel for giving us free run of their lounge and bar for this shoot, and Allana Taranto for assisting me.

Boston Portrait Photographer

For those of you who follow my portrait work, you might have noticed that back in November I added a new page to the website, “casting.” The first project that I was casting for was for this series of images you see here today. My idea was that I wanted to explore how people define themselves, via simple black and white images. Simple light, simple compositions, minimal styling, each image completely unique. I didn’t prompt any of the text you’ll see in these images, as I wanted each subject to tell their own stories, with their own ideas.

Local friends may notice a few familiar faces in these images as well. Special thanks to Jess, Lara & Kate and Brian for being a part.

This project is something I see as ongoing for a long time to come – this is far from the end, it’s something I hope to add to for years. If you’re interested in being a part, e-mail me at casting@douglaslevyphotography.com.
